In Alberta, any vehicle regardless of whether it is JDM or Canadian, that is over 12 years of age, needs to have what's called a "Automobile Insurance Motor Vehicle Inspection Report" performed by a licensed mechanic before it can be insured.
It's a pretty simple inspection really. It checks the brakes, the lights, windshield, the wipers, suspension, seat belts etc... I had a friend, who is a licensed mechanic - and a former CRX owner, stop by and perform the inspection for me. I didn't ask for any special favors and I didn't receive any, except maybe for the house call. In case you haven't figured it out after reading this far, I'm a by-the-book kinda guy. I wasn't comfortable taking the car to a shop to have it inspected since it'd been so long since it was driven last and I just wanted someone to confirm the unofficial inspection I'd already performed myself before I took her out for a spin.
As predicted, the inspection went off without a hitch. He kept remarking about what good shape the undercarriage, suspension and steering components were in. Considering he inspects and repairs pre-owned trade-ins at a local dealership, that is high-praise indeed.
The next day, August 13th, I replaced the wheels, and took her for my first drive around the block in years to celebrate.
