December 15th, 2021 - A.I.R. LED Glow Plate Frame / Jiko Shinki License Plate Frame

December 15th, 2021 - A.I.R. LED Glow Plate Frame / Jiko Shinki License Plate Frame

After some issues with shipping out of Japan, I received my A.I.R. glow plate frames. These are LED like my existing frames, but they are thinner, which should allow me to use some the hardware I have, including the tilt license plate bracket. They are also endorsed by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Testing worked out fine, both pairs work, though one looks to have had some water damage in its past, but it still works fine. This damage was mentioned in the original auction, so it didn't come as a surprise.

When I disconnected the license plate and tested it with the frame I noticed something interesting. The A.I.R. frame is quite a bit smaller than the other frames I have.

At first I was concerned that I'd accidentally bought the wrong frames... again. After some research, it seems that this frame lines up perfectly with the numbers on the plate itself.

According to Amazon.co.jp the product dimensions for the automobile plate frame is 148mm x 300mm and the size of the Japanese plates is 165mm x 330mm which seems to line up with what I'm seeing on my set.

It's also very likely that the frame is smaller to allow for the use of license plate surrounds or covers.

Secure in the knowledge that I finally have the correct frames, after accidentally purchasing the incorrect style last year, and after confirming that it's the correct size, I decided to do a tes-fit and mount it with the hardware I want to use as well as the tilt bracket...

The result was a perfect fit on both fronts.

I'm excited to get the connector soldered to the harness and have the plate mounted in time for next year's driving season!
