December 31st, 2021 - Checking The Rear View Mirrors & The Road Ahead

December 31st, 2021 - Checking The Rear View Mirrors

As another year comes to a close, the 17th year since I bought my EF8, I can recall only a handful where I can look back and see where significant progress has been made on this project.

One of those years was 2005 (bought and added a lot of the parts I had) as well as 2014 (back on the road, suspension install etc), 2015 (added more key parts to the inventory) and 2017 (exhaust install, more key pieces purchased)

And now I can add 2021 to that list.

The year started off more promising than the previous few, with some changes to the garage: a television/monitor for the PC as well as new lights and a coat of paint to brighten the workspace.

Hagerty Insurance came through on their agreement to insure the CR-X this time, so I was able to insure and register her for the first time since 2017. I managed to put a little under 250km on the clock this year (roughly 155 miles).

I did some more work prepping the Mugen rear bumper for final installation. She still is a little rough with some body work needed but the car looks more complete with the proper PRO.2 rear bumper installed.

Had an opportunity to do some work on my replica Mugen front bumper, drilling the holes for all the accessories (license plate, signal lights, mounting brackets etc).

Was able to make it to the Village Honda Show and Shine. It was a great time but it really made me realize how much further I need to go in order to be on par with some of the fantastic Hondas in Calgary. There's some truly impressive rides out there. Though, I was pleased that so many people seemed to enjoy my CR-X, warts and all.

By far my favorite of all the things I did to my CR-X this year was to finally install my JDM light up, or glow plate (jiko shiki). I can't explain why I love it so much, but I've had it for 16 years and I've never faltered; I've always wanted to install it as my front plate since back in 2005.

2022: The Road Ahead

From where I'm sitting currently, 2022 is looking pretty decent.

I am planning to complete painting over the orange in the garage with the final wall. I would like to cover the window with some sort of film to cut down on the ability to look inside, and maybe add some sort of security bars on it. I'm also considering doing something to cover it with insulation for the winter time.

I'm also planning on getting some additional lighting for the area above the vehicles to make working on the cars a little easier.

For the CR-X, I'm hoping to get the Mugen replica bumper painted and installed, and I'd like to get the exhaust finished with the addition of a header and high-flow cat. While the exhaust is dropped, I'd like to install the Mugen shifter bushings and the C's shifter. I haven't decided on the Tyrannosaur mount but I may install one of those as well.

I was actually able to buy that new header for my CR-X - a Fujitsubo Super EX - in November this year. Made to order, it took almost two months to arrive, showing up on Christmas Eve! It wasn't supposed to be a Christmas present, but arriving when it did, how could it NOT be?

Plans are to install it next spring, along with some Spoon heat tape for the oil pan. Not certain if I'll do it myself or take it to a shop. I suppose it will depend on several things and whether the front bumper install happens.

I'd also like to try and clay bar the rear bumper to get rid of the decal residue of the Shoshinsha mark the previous owner had installed, and if I can't get the bumper repainted, I'd like to try and touch up the scuffs and install the rear grills for the Mugen rear bumper, and finish the rear license plate light odds and ends.

I'm also hoping to get out and do more filming with the GoPro in 2022. I've been working on audio for some slideshows and videos -- now, I just need the proper photos video to mate with them.

As always, life is what happens while we're making other plans, so we will see how many of these things I can get done in 2022 but I'm really feeling hopeful I can check many of these items off the list.
