September 9th, 2016 - PROJECT PRO.2 Moves To A New Home (Again).
We finally purchased a new home. It's actually the same house with the three car garage I mentioned in my previous post. Apparently, the financing fell thru on the other deal and it came back on the market. Our house only took eight days to sell and so we were able to snatch it up and began the process of moving our stuff in around mid-July.

New home for Project Pro.2 |
The CR-X parts went over first. While most of them were/are in storage tubs, they weren't packed up very well -- not good enough to be moved by movers anyways. Weather-wise, we had a crazy end to June that lasted straight until the end of July with 19 days of severe thunderstorms and hail which meant the CR-X itself was delayed being moved to her new home by several days. My Facebook news feed was littered with pictures of loonie and golf ball sized hail and flash flooding for almost the entire month. A little rain is one thing, but flash floods and giant hail is quite another thing.

The parts were packed for storage not for moving so I opted to take almost all of them myself |
The night we moved the CR-X herself was during one of these "severe thunderstorm watches" issued by Environment Canada whenever we may have a possibility severe thunderstorm with damaging wind and/or hail. It was freaky, there were dark clouds surrounding the 35km route to the new house, but luckily there wasn't so much as a drop of rain the whole trip. The rain began about 15 minutes after we'd gotten her safely stowed away at the new place. A friend on Facebook who lives about 10mins from our old place posted pictures of the hail they received that same night. Very scary stuff.

All summer long (June 24th until well into August) there wasn't a day went by when there wasn't a t-storm |

Pulled the CR-X out of the garage and was awaiting my wife's return home so we could proceed |

Friends posted this to Facebook that very same night. They're 10mins from our old place.
Glasstop CR-Xs and hail this size would not be a good combination. |
The new garage is fantastic (or it will be, once everything is set up), especially being attached to the house, it's nice to be able to just slip out quickly and grab a tool when working on home improvements and it's even better for those rainy days when running back and forth from the house to the garage is a giant pain. I'm hoping that since it's attached it will mean that it's also easier to heat after insulating only a couple more of the walls. I'm already planning to run some cables to have a computer workstation and a TV out there and I even picked up a couple of banners to hang for the time being. For now though, it's set up enough for my parts to fit comfortably and to allow my wife to park in there.
|
This was taken ~3wks after we moved in. Started setting up some shelves. |
|
~4wks in, set up some items on pallets in the corner and moved my workbench and organized. |
|
|
~6wks in. A clear spot has opened up where my wife will be able to park soon. |
|
~8wks in. My wife can now park in the garage! |
|
Added a couple of garage banners I bought from eBay. |
Despite the craziness of moving, I still managed to plug away at my parts list, and scooped a single Mugen MR-5 (for only 2000 yen) to keep as a spare in case I curb one of mine (one of my greatest fears when parking). I also got a set of power steering hoses from Yahoo Japan, some Mugen shifter bushings (which always seemed to be back-ordered from King Motorsports) and some other odds and ends.

|
Spare 15" Mugen MR5 wheel. I will test Plasti-dip on this wheel before using it on my main wheels. |
|
Replacement fuse box from an EF6. Really only needed the ICU but beggars can't be choosers.
It was the only one on Yahoo Japan. |
|
Replacement shift linkage. Thinking that I could install the C's shifter and Mugen
bushings in this to make installation day go much smoother. |
Before moving the CR-X parts, I had the opportunity to test-fit the
license plate holder with my tilt frame. Unfortunately, it didn't go
exactly as planned. The license plate hung far too low and it looked
rather ridiculous. I'm hoping that the higher-up placement of the license plate mounting for the PRO.2 style front fascia will help with this. We'll wait and see.
|
Illuminating "Honda" license plate holder test-fit. I rather like it when the license plate isn't attached. |
|
With the license plate attached it hangs too low and looks awkward.
Perhaps it will look better with the PRO.2 style Bumper? |
I also spoke to a gentleman on Facebook named Greg who makes third brake light plates to see if he could make me one that says "CR-X", and he agreed. It's arrived and I mounted it already -- it's the only thing I've done to the car so far this season and I think it looks amazing! He's listed them on eBay and in about a week has already sold 8 of them! His eBay handle is igregs if anyone wants one.

Fitted to my SiR it looks fantastic. Also, nowhere on the rear of my car does it say CR-X
so it kinda works with my motif of no duplicate naming/badging. |
I made an attempt to take the CR-X over to the U-Wrench It garage so I could install the shifter, Mugen bushings, and the Tanabe exhaust and, time permitting, an oil change and coolant drain/fill. Prepared all the tools, gathered all the parts, woke my wife up early so she could drive over with the new exhaust and be my mechanic helper for the day, almost got a speeding ticket on the way to the place (a big thank you to the guy in the Infinity in the lane beside me who pulled out to pass me about a block before the speed trap), and when I arrived -- Closed. I checked Google again and it should have opened at 11am. Checked the actual website for the company and found out it's closed the first Sunday of every month. That'll teach me for relying solely on Google for the hours of operation of a business.
Oh well, at least I got out for a drive and snapped a couple pics of my reflection in the neighboring store-fronts.
We'll see if I'm able to make it back out there before the weather turns cold and snowy. I still have lots of work to do on the house to get ready for winter as well. And if all of that wasn't enough, I'm enrolled in a night school class two days a week to upgrade my skills.
This season hasn't turned out at all like I'd expected or planned, but overall it's been interesting and definitely a landmark year in other areas besides the CR-X project.
